The End of the School Year

Day care kids love to photo bomb.  It was very hard to try to get pictures of Princess alone with a teacher.  This is Princess and Ms. Jen.  Ms. Jen had Princess in the 2s room and for part of the year in the 4s room.  She will always have a special place in my heart because she comforted Princess while I was in the hospital 2 years ago.

This is Princess and Ms. Penny, her other main teacher.  We have liked having her as a teacher.

This is Champ and Princess at the end of their last day in third grade and the 4s class.  I love how Princess wanted to dress up for the last day of school.

On Friday evening, I went to Zumba class.  Then I hung out with some of our neighbors.  Saturday morning I joined some Team in Training alumni to run at Butler University.  I spent the day cleaning, organizing, and shopping.  In the evening, I ate dinner with my friends (Melanie, Mandy, and Lara).

Today I volunteered in Princess's Sunday School room.  This was her last day in that Sunday School room because next Sunday is promotion Sunday.  I have loved her lead teacher.  Today Princess got the special job of squirting hand sanitizer on her friends' hands before snack.  You should have seen the look of pride on her face as she did her special job.  Today I did more cleaning and organizing.  I also took some time to weed and run 3 miles.

What do you wear to go to sleep?

Dance Conclusion

Who knew there were report cards for dance class?  Well, there are!  I was handed the following information before the last class:

Attitude:  excellent
Attendance:  excellent
Effort/focus:  great/excellent

Comments from teacher:  Princess has really done a great job this year in class.  She has a great natural ability and is very good at memorizing steps.

Recommendations from teacher:  I feel she should move up to the next class next year.  I think part of her lack of focus these past few weeks is that she needs to be challeged more.  I think the more advanced class will help her with that.

She was totally posing for a picture!

Favorite Princess comment from today:
At breakfast, I turned the music off on my work iPad.  Princess said, "Don't you know that isn't just your iPad?"  Actually, I think it is just my iPad.

A Girl's Hair

This may be my new favorite hairdo.  Princess loved it too.  She didn't want to take her hair down at bedtime.  She looked like such a cute, little girl today.  I love when she lets me play with her hair.

Memorial Day Weekend

I enjoyed going to the parade with friends.  We were famished by the time we had a late lunch at Weber Grill.

Straight no Chaser

Colts players

Race car drivers and their families

Beauty shop

Yesterday we went to the Children's Museum.  We enjoyed seeing the new Hot Wheels exhibit.  It was a great weekend to see it since it was race weekend in Indy.

They loved racing cars.

We took a class and got to assemble our own cars.

Champ was thrilled that his car won two differnt races before crashing.  We couldn't assemble it back into the perfect car again.  I told him that was just like racing, sometimes cars crash.

Princess didn't want to race her car.

Winners drink milk, and my princess is a winner.

We always love technology!  It is very hard to drag ourselves away from it.

Princess joined the Pit Crew.

Playscape is a favorite!  The kids played music, played at the water table, and made sculptures.

I was glad that Champ chose to go to the China exhibit.  It was different since the last time we went.  Princess is on a train above.

Champ learned how to play a new instrument.

Princess sang in the opera.

Princess worked in a restaurant.

Champ learned the meaning of our names, and then was working on creating them in Chinese.

Princess took care of the pandas.

The kids worked on their writing.

They posed as Transformers before leaving.

As we left the museum, I was sad to see a car that had crashed outside the museum.  I was even more sad to read in the news that a child had been hit in the accident.  What a terrible experience for so many people.  I have prayed for healing in the situation.

Wearing a Referee?

In a rare moment, Champ plays with Princess's toys.

My heart melts when the kids are playing well together, especially when they read together.

Yesterday Champ dressed in layers for his field day.  Princess wanted to wear shorts under her capri pants, just like Champ was wearing shorts under his sweatpants.  So, Princess asked if she could wear shorts under her "referees."  I told her that what she was wearing were capris, not referees.

The Final Days Before School Ends

Days left of school:  6

Princess often sneaks into my bed at night.  I let her for a couple of reasons.  First, I often don't even realize she has snuck into my bed because I'm busy sleeping.  Second, she is too heavy for me to lift. Third, I feel she will grow up too quickly, and I'll regret the days I wouldn't let her sneak into my bed.
The above picture testifies to how she is not very fair in sharing of the bed.  I feel she probably shouldn't be so perpendicular to the stripes in my bedspread.

She makes me laugh.

I often do a lot of behind the sceens work for Champ's homework.  I input all his spelling words into Spelling City so that he can study the words on that app.  Recently, I've made review science presentations.  This is my first slide.  On all slides that follow the title slide, I ask a question.  Then I have the answer to the question come in with just a click of the button.  Champ thought this week's presentation looked pretty cool.  Now he is working on making his own sports presentation.

This is the question and answer on my favorite slide.  I always have a question like this in my presentations at school too.

Princess wanted to look fancy at school today.  We even tried a new hairdo.  I could tell that she really felt good about herself today.

Super to Sad Sunday

This morning I worked in Princess's Sunday School class.

Then we went to Target to spend some of a gift card that Champ had received as a birthday present.  He bought football cards.

Next, we went out for lunch at Fireside Brewhouse.  It was fun to practice our fancy restaurant skills.  I was thankful for this gift card from Teacher Appreciation Week.  I used another gift card to take the kids to see the Sponge Bob movie.  Although I had a hard time staying awake for the movie, the kids seemed to love it.

The kids loved checking out books again from the library.  Princess checked out Barbie, Strawberry Shortcake, and Berenstain Bear books.  Champ had more eclectic tastes today.  He was looking at books about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, football, superheroes, and My Weird School.

After being out and about, we took care of business around the house.  I mowed the lawn and the kids help me clean the house.  They get paid to clean and are saving their money for a special occasion.
As part of our cleaning, Champ cleaned our fish bowl.  He forgot to let the fish bowl water sit out on the counter until the water becomes room temperature.  After he went to bed, I saw the fish didn't make it.  Champ is going to be crushed tomorrow to learn the fish didn't make it.

Indians Game

Friday evening began with a special treat at our favorite frozen yogurt place.  We happened to arrive around the same time as our pastor's daughter-in-law and grandchildren.  Princess was thrilled that the granddaughter sat with us at our table.

We were blessed with free tickets to an Indianapolis Indians game.  For most of the evening, it was a beautiful evening.  Not too hot, not too cold.  We shared a soft pretzel and water.  We were disappointed that we never made it on the big screen or got a freebie that they were passing out.  A silly moment was when we saw ducks walking across the field.  Sometime after the 7th inning stretch there was an announcement that all people in lawn seats were invited to come under the shelter for safety sake with an impending storm.  My crew started freaking out.  I'm glad we heeded the warning and headed out.  We weren't in our car too long when there was a downpour with thunder and lightning.

Cub Scout Graduation

Wednesday was the last night of cub scouts.  Champ graduated and will move onto the next level.  There was a long evening of awards, an impossible knot craft, and plenty of tasty sweets.
