Minnie Mouse and More

There is never a bad day to dress like Minnie Mouse.  Today Princess wore her new costume (given by neighbor) for most of the morning as we entertained my friend Christi and her kids. We had a pitch in lunch.

We went to my parents' house for dinner and to hang out.

Kelly and I took a bike ride tonight.  The kids had a wonderful evening playing with their Daddy.

A July Weekend

My in laws came over yesterday morning to follow me to the ballpark.  Champ had a great game.  He almost got another inside the park home run again.  The third base coach told him to run home, but he got out at home plate.  Princess enjoyed spending more time with grandparents and having snacks.  Grandparents left after the game.  As we sat there munching on snacks, a storm started rolling in quickly.  We made a quick break for the car.  I drove home in the pouring rain.

Last night the kids got play time with Daddy while mom enjoyed a girls night out.  Melanie, Lara, and I talked and laughed at Starbucks.

Today was another great sermon at church.  The boys left quickly for another baseball game.  Princess and I played on the playground before heading to the ballpark.  We almost missed the game. Champ's team was easily and quickly defeated.

I received a hot stone massage today.  It was fabulous.

The kids played with the Worgess family while Mommy and Daddy met with a mentor couple.

Dwindling Summer Days

We went to story time Tuesday morning.  Princess likes to sit in mom's lap and observe rather than participate.  Yet, I will hear her sing the songs at home.  Champ got a haircut at Sports Clips.  Shelli, Kelly, and I sweated at  Zumba class.  Daddy brought the kids to the gym to watch the last 10 minutes of class.  It was cute to watch them try to imitate the Zumba moves at home.  It reminded me of Saturday when the kids had daddy marry them in the family room after watching Mandy's wedding.

On Wednesday, we met Melanie Peele, Lara Blomberg, and most of their kids at a movie theater to see Rio.  Champ liked it, but he thought the white bird was scary.  Princess was fussy because she wanted a drink.  The ring pop I found her in my purse made her content until she dropped it on the restroom floor after the movie.  I threw the ring pop away and you would have thought the world was ending.  The kids were thrilled when they got to see their grandparents again.  Everyone went to Champ's baseball practice.

Yesterday the kids were excited to see both sets of grandparents in the same day.  We all survived the heat at his practice.

Today the kids spent wonderful quality time with their grandparents again.  Champ had a game tonight.  They lost.  Princess had a great time of playing with a girl who is slightly older than her.  Princess had a hard time falling asleep tonight.  Apparently she was scared of some of the characters she saw in Dora movies today.

Back on the Horse...

Champ was cleared by the pediatrician today to play all sports.  He was absolutely thrilled....telling others later that his concussion was all done.  I had Champ write down questions in advance for the doctor.  He remembered to bring the questions with him in the car.  When we realized he left the questions in the car, he insisted on getting them rather than using my list.  It was really cute.  Then he read all his questions to he doctor...didn't wait for an answer after each...just read them straight through.

We went to a library to get summer reading prizes and play in the play area.  Instead, Champ just wanted to look at books and Princess just wanted to play on the computer.

The kids wanted more breakfast for lunch...crust less spinach quiche.  We also tried a grape smoothie and froze the rest for Popsicles to enjoy after dinner.  I made granola that we could enjoy after rest time.

We enjoy story time before rest time.  Champ and I take turns reading books.

Rest time was a bust....both kids wanted to rest with me, and all 3 of us didn't sleep.

After rest time, I made homemade tortillas.  They worked out really well this time.

Princess had us play hide and seek many times.  I never saw where she hid because she would always come running and giggling too.  When it was time for her to count, she was too excited to count to 10.  She would count to 3 or 6 or 8.  Sometimes she just threw out random numbers to get done with it.  When she would look for us, it was more of a Marco Polo game....
"Mom"
"Yes"
"What you doing?"
"Hiding."
"Where you hiding?"
"Here."

Daddy finished making dinner while I ran on the treadmill...3 miles.  I came back to eat before Champ and I took a 3 mile ride on bikes.  He was so excited.  We came home for drinks.  We went for another mile bike ride with 3 neighbor kids and their parents.  Champ directed the "bicycle gang" to where we were going.  Then he commanded the group to go home, get drinks, and meet again for another bike ride.  Apparently he was making up for a week's worth of not biking in one night.  The bicycle gang hung out outside our house instead.  There was bike riding, kickball, etc.

While Daddy was out walking, I took over his usual job of giving Princess a bath.  We sang, this is the way we wash our arm, wash our arm, wash our arm, this is the way we wash our arm so early in the evening.  She loved it.  Books, Bible, and bed wrapped up the evening.

CPC Friends Weekend

We met Cory Wenrick and her two boys at the children's museum on Friday.  We played in some of our favorite areas, as well as ate a packed lunch.  Champ was so proud of himself when he was holding a now fussing baby and got him to stop by putting the pacifier in his mouth.  After our friends left, we went to a few more exhibits and then a musical, Princess's first.  She seemed scared for half of it as she snuggled against me, but she eventually warmed up and turned around on my lap. We had leftovers for dinner before going to the store.  We bought Champ a shirt and tie while we bought Princess a pair of fancy shoes.  All items were for the next day's wedding.

We woke early on Saturday to travel to Richmond, Indiana, for the wedding of my beloved friend, Mandy Shank.  We had left early enough to give us plenty of time for a bathroom stop on the way and kids changing clothes on site.  I was feeling pretty good about my parenting when both kids were mad that i bought Teddy Grahams at the gas station.  Instead both wanted the pistachios i had in the car.  during the wedding, Princess found a grandma in the row behind her hat was providing snacks to her grandson.  Princess worked her magic, and the grandma gave her snacks too.  Champ failed to use the restroom before the wedding, so he left the wedding to use the restroom.  The kids were fairly good during the wedding, but they got a little restless waiting to be dismissed from our aisle by the bride and groom.  I had given Princess plenty of suggestions on things to say to the bride when she greeted us.  The Princess didn't like any of my ideas.  So instead she said to the bride, "we are going to a wedding tomorrow."

Earlham College was the venue for the reception.  Most guests got to choose where they wanted to sit.  We sat with Jamey Day, although Champ wanted to sit by Mandy and Princess wanted to sit by Lori Anderson.  There was a kid's buffet open when we arrived.  The kids picked up nuggets and French fries.  When we sat down to eat, Princess noticed the wedding favors (M and Ms).  Princess
abandoned her plate to eat only candy.  She completed her well balanced meal with cake.  So much
for my parenting.  Both my kids kept leaving my table to sit by Lori Anderson and Rose House.  Champ enjoyed taking photos with my camera.  He also enjoyed running around with Lara Blomberg's boys.

On the way home, the kids were entertained by watching bicyclists in the RAIN ride.  I fell asleep instead.  I took a bike ride after a dinner of leftovers.  Princess and I did a short walk around the neighborhood.  She did well this time as we hunted for letters and numbers around the neighborhood. The boys took a longer walk.

Today we went to the slacker service at church so that we could sleep in.  After lunch at home, we had mandatory family cleaning time.  Champ did great, but Princess excels more at making messes.  Princess and I napped while the boys went to Champ's baseball game, even though we wouldn't let him play.  I liked that Champ came up with the idea of going to the game anyways to cheer on his teammates.  I went to the grocery store by myself....I called the opportunity a little slice of Heaven.  The kids and I walked around the neighborhood wile Daddy mowed.  Champ pushed Princess in her umbrella stroller most of the time.

Eventful week continued

I started Thursday in the lodge’s fitness center.  We ate more of mommy’s homemade pumpkin muffins for breakfast.  By the time the water park area opened again at 10, we were ready to go and super excited that Uncle Matt and his family would be joining us.  Caroline and Princess were adorable on the little slides.  Princess was getting more brave….loving the wave pool without a care as to whether anyone was around.  We did some different combinations on the waterslides…Heather and I, Heather and Matt, Champ and Matt, etc.  Lunch was at a snack bar by the pool before Caroline and Heather headed home.  The rest of us left later.  We were starving by the time we got to Matt’s house for dinner.  Good thing Heather is a wonderful chef!  We drove to Columbus, Ohio, where we stayed at aCrowne Plaza and watched fireworks from our room’s window.
We woke up to another day of rain.  Princess and I braved the rain to go to McDonald’s drive through to get breakfast for the gang.  Since the rain ruined our zoo and aquarium plans, we went to Plan B…COSi.  The line was so long to get in.  After about a 30 minute wait, Daddy discovered that he could order tickets through his new smart phone and pick them up at a will call.  That shaved some time off of our wait.  The area for Princess was fabulous.  I think Champ would have liked the area too, but they wouldn’t let older siblings play in the area.  I think one of the employees was a little offended when I said there was nothing for our older child to do in the area.  She said there was an older kid’s room adjoining it.  The room included board games, video game, craft, and Legos.  We weren’t paying to do the same things I could have the kids do at home.  Champ liked doing other things both in and out of the building.  Princess took an expensive nap during the 3 D movie about butterflies.  We ate lunch in the COSI cafeteria and dinner at a Bob Evans on our way home.  We also drove around the Cedarville campus to see where several friends had studied.
Saturday was busy getting some errands done.  The Toths and our family joined together for dinner and play at the Worgesshouse.
On Sunday morning, I was Champ’s Sunday school teacher.  He seemed pleased with that.  Daddy and I were excited about a rare evening away from the kids.  We were dropping them off at a friend’s house so we could go to dinner.  Although we enjoyed dinner and hanging out, I was learning on our way to the friend’s house that Champ had fallen off his bike and was complaining of a headache.  When we arrived at their house, I learned that he had apparently fallen asleep and thrown up too.  I was pleased to know that he was wearing his helmet on his bike, but he didn’t look well.  I decided he needed to go to an immediate care center.  As we were loading up the car, he couldn’t tell us what he had for dinner and he was sure that they hadn’t gone on a bike ride.  I changed my mind…we needed to go to the ER.  The diagnosis was a concussion.  I was disappointed to learn that you can still get a concussion even when using a helmet.  I opted to have him stay in the ER for a couple of hours under observation.  Champ threw up 4 times in the ER, which prompted the doctor to want us to keep him awake.  The doctor was pleased with his demeanor, so he released us 4 hours after the accident.  We were supposed to wake him up every hour and have him get a drink of water in the kitchen and see if he could follow basic instructions.  I had him sleep in my bed so I could keep an eye on him.  He seemed to be easier to rouse earlier in the morning.  He was also starting to hold down liquids.

On Monday, we canceled our original plans and were low key at home.  Champ’s head and stomach were still clearly bothering him.  I got him to eat a few things and take a nap.  Some neighbors came over in the evening when we were relaxing in our front yard.  Champ started to run with the girls and was disappointed to know that we didn’t want him to do that.
On Tuesday, we ventured to story time at the library.  Princess is starting to get a little more into it…she was even singing some of the story time songs in the car on our road trip to Ohio.  Kelly and I went to Zumba that night.
Wednesday brought the Banks boys and mom over for lunch and play.  I loved that all the boys were trying to draw pictures and sell them at the end of the driveway for $13.99.  They also made a Crazy Town video.  We were glad that the boys could opt for something low key at our house rather than our original park date.
Today the Sanders stopped by for a visit, again changing from the original plan of a park.  It was good to have girls in the house for a change.  Champ had been nervous that the girls would only play with Princess, but they were playing with him too.  We loved that Memaw brought us Burger King for lunch.  It was good to see her again, and she needed to see the concussion boy for herself.

Eventful Week

Last Tuesday we went to a local gymnastics place.  The place didn't play on Princess's strengths.  She doesn't do well standing in line, waiting her turn, or choosing age appropriate activities.  Other moms were helping me spot her since she was so adventurous.  Champ had a great time too.

On Wendesday, we headed to The Great Wolf Lodge in Mason, Ohio.  I packed lunches, and we ate on the way.  We just made some brief stops for restroom breaks.  We got to the lodge at 1:00, well before our room was ready.  We got started in the water park.  Princess was a little intimidated by her waterslides until she saw Champ go down them.  Add Daddy on the top of the slide and mommy waiting below.  She tried it and loved it.  She did lots of slides, but the orange ones (the tamest of all) were her favorite.  She also liked when I pulled her by the hands so she could "swim."  Champ liked everything:  little slides, big slides, lazy river, squirt areas, etc.  I loved when he was crossing the pool using the ropes and lilly pads.  He fell in and eventually had to swim his way to the ladder rather than finish.  He got out and told me that he wasn't giving up.  Sure enough he got back in line and was able to do it the next time and many more times.  Daddy and I would alternate kids.  We got into our room and got ready for a visit from Uncle Matt and his family.  We chatted in the room for awhile before venturing to Abuelo's and Grater's for dinner and dessert.  Yummy!  Great company too.  We came back to the lodge with little time to spare before the bedtime story time.  Princess hated pretend objects coming to life so she got a head start on changing back into her swimsuit.  Champ liked the story time, and we even got to meet one of the characters.

Monday

Today was another accident free day for Princess.

I took Champ to a doctor's appointment.  I loved how the kids were so eager to share every detail of our lives with the doctor. Princess loved washing her hands during the appointment. Before the appointment, Princess was being followed around by a one year old.  Princess clearly didn't want the adoration from this child.  It was cute that Champ stepped in and blocked the child from getting to Princess.

PRincess and I napped.  Dinner was baked chicken, fruit, baked potato drenched in a cheesy cauliflower sauce, and triple berry banana smoothie Popsicles.

Boys went to another tournament game.  Princess and I stayed home.  I couldn't stand to take her out if there was a chance of rain.  Apparently Champ made three hits and three runs.  Unfortunately, his team still lost.

Princess and I took a trip to the store.

Champ and I took a bike ride.  We rode three miles.

Daddy took a walk while I gave Princess a bath.  She enjoyed my silly bath songs, but she hates when someone tries to get the soap out of her hair.
