After Princess woke up today, she wanted to snuggle. Then she ate breakfast (carrot muffin and banana). I took her out of her wet pull up and put her in underwear and a cute outfit for church. At bedtime, I realized that she hadn't had an accident all day. She even pooped in the potty in the evening.
This morning we went to church. Next, we went to Champ's baseball game. He got 2 hits and made it to bases. He never got a run. He got someone out at third too.
We went home for a quick lunch...PBJ, raw broccoli, and a fruit. We also made patriotic smoothie Popsicles. The kids were so excited about making them. Champ likes pushing buttons on the blender. We also played a very exciting game of where did Princess put something. We eventually discovered that she had moved the Popsicle mold to the laundry room.
Back to the baseball diamond we went. It was nice to talk to some friends before the game. As Champ's game was getting ready to begin, it began to pour. I held Princess in my lap for about an hour before they canceled the game. It was at this point that she decided that she needed to go potty. Daddy worked hard to get Princess across the fields to the potty and then get us all to the car.
We came home and tried to warm up and dry off before the Worgess family came over. Shelli brought over fruit. Daddy and I added cheeseburgers, cheesy cauliflower dippers, macaroni and cheese, frozen banana pops, and patriotic smoothie Popsicles. Shelli tried to help me get the cheesy cauliflower dippers done. They didn't look like the picture on the Internet, but they tasted good. The kids played fairly well together. Shelli beat me in Words with Friends.
This site is designed to document the beautiful lives of two precious children. Champ is my 8 year-old son, and Princess is my 3 year-old daughter.

Wrapping Up June 2013
The Kids and I ventured to a new park on Thursday where we met my friend (Lara Blomberg) and 2 of her kids. The park was lovely, and the kids played well together. However, it is hard to catch up with old friends when you are following around little kids with their own opinions. The kids acted famished (as always) and both grown ups had brought snacks to share with everyone.
I ran just short of 4 miles Thursday evening. Champ and I took a bike ride. Daddy exercised.
We met up with the Rich family on Friday to go to the gym together. Kelly, Shelli, and I did a Zumba class together while the Rich kids and my kids played in the child care area. We were sweating hard during the class. The Friday instructor is fabulous. Great workout.
The Rich kids came over for lunch and to play. Despite the fact that I was serving PBJ, macaroni and cheese, carrots, and mandarin oranges, all the kids in the group were unhappy with something. Princess, however, was the one most pleased with the meal. She got seconds on her bread with peanut butter (no jelly) and macaroni and cheese. I think she feared it was her last supper with less healthy food. The only thing Princess didn't want to eat was her carrots, but she eventually tried one. The kids played at my house for awhile and played fairly well together.
I think Champ actually fell asleep on my bed during rest time. Princess would make an awful criminal. I told her not to get out of her room. Then I hear this clank....obviously she wasn't in her carpeted bedroom. I tell her to go back to her room. Later she is in the hall with her brother's Legos. So, she had been in his room and in the hall. She is going to have to be a little more crafty about breaking rules if she doesn't want to get caught.
Princess and Champ both like when we serve tilapia, so they were happier with dinner. We met the Worgess family at one of our favorite ice cream places. We also joined them for a patriotic concert at an outdoor ampitheater. We sat as far in the back as possible and let the boys play with balls. Both girls sat near the grown ups. Then we went to a nearby playground and played. When we came home, I worked on making carrot muffins. Ironically, Princess wanted to snack on carrots while I was making muffins.
Today we met the Worgess family to attend a community parade. Princess didn't leave my lap at all during the parade...we sat contently in a lawn chair. The older kids competed for candy and coupons being thrown. Some people passed out juice boxes, popsicles, and cookies. Champ was kind enough to ask for these things for his little sister too. Daddy describes the parade as some patriotism and then one big commercial for the community.
Wendy's was where we stopped for lunch. I was pleased that everyone made healthy choices. Good job! The boys went to the Champs' baseball tournament game early. I let Princess play for a little bit on the iPad. She peed in the potty before we left. As we started to get in the car, she said she wanted to poop in the potty. I was doubtful, but I complied. We went back to the potty, and she sat there until she pooped in the potty. She must not have liked the way it felt because she pooped in her pull up later in the day.
Princess and I went late to the game. We got there just in time to see Champ make a double, and another runner batted him in. We also saw him strike out twice, but the rain was getting harder as the game continued. Thunder roared as the sky opened up and started pouring with little notice. Another mom let us stand under her tent. We packed so many people under that tent that I had to stand and hold Princess because she was scared and I didn't want my chair taking up that much space. We stood in that tent for a long time. The fields were flooding, and I suspected the game would be canceled. When there was a slight let up in the ran, I called Daddy in the dugout and asked him to help Princess and I make a break for it to the car. He did. The boys came home not long after us. I tried to get the kids to rest. The boys went back to the ball diamond later only to discover that games for the day were canceled.
I had the luxury of going to the store alone to buy popsicle molds and cake pop sticks....I am hoping to make my own healthy popsicles and a frozen banana desert. I next went to the grocery store alone.
Daddy made baked chicken, and I added a vegetable and fruit when I returned home. Champ and I took a bike ride. He probably went about 4 miles before he called it quits. I rode another 4.2 miles on my own. Daddy took Princess out for a walk. She fell asleep in the stroller....I wish she did that in the afternoon! I had to wake her up because she needed a bath and a pull up on.

Wacky Wednesday
Our morning began with beautiful weather and splendid friends (the Banks) at our favorite park. The kids played really well together.
We came home and ate leftovers. Champ did his school work. We read books. I napped, but no one else did.
I worked hard on a healthy dinner: creamed spinach dip served on toasted bread, spaghetti with green peppers and carrots, lettuce salad with coconut, and the 3 minute apple pie. I was so pleased with my kids. They set up a blanket in the toy room and played contentedly together with Legos while I prepared the meal. Daddy and champ did a great job with the healthy meal.
Champ and I took a bike ride.
We all went to Champ's baseball practice. Princess had a few girls her age to play with. Daddy helped the boys practice.
Daddy went to exercise in the neighborhood. I laughed when Princess got ice packs out of the freezer and tossed him into Champ's shower. She also turned his shower ice cold. The kids and I read books together. Both kids fell asleep quickly.

Terrific Tuesday
We began our day with smoothies and crust less spinach quiches. We quickly got ready for story time at our local library. Although Princess was super excited to go to the library, she was frantically wanting me to hold her as we walked into the story time room. I wonder if she thinks I will leave her. For the first time, she sat on her carpet square in front of me, marched and tip toed to the drum with the rest of the group, and put her carpet square away on her own. Champ sat fairly patiently waiting for story time to conclude. We picked out books and movies to check out.
Champ was not happy with me when I stopped by our favorite park to picnic and play. He wanted to read his books. He played for a little bit with a student from my class from this past year. Once she left, he eventually found another boy from his school to play with. We didn't stay long at the park.
When we got home, we had a snack. I read new library books aloud for 50 minutes. Princess put on a big protest before the nap. She eventually caved and fell asleep, as did I. As Champ played in his room, he found some Lego super heroes....in his Lego box. He kept saying how lucky he was.
While Princess continued to sleep, I worked on dinner while Champ did his school work.
After dinner, Champ and I took a short bike ride. Daddy took both kids to baseball practice. I did a little cleaning before taking another bike ride by myself. I met Shelli and Kelly for Zumba. I think our instructor needs glasses...she keeps telling the class how good we look. We all arrived home about the same times. The kids cleaned off after getting filthy at practice. We read more books. Champ fell asleep easily, but Princess is protesting the event again.

Striving for Health
After seeing the strain on our family with me being hospitalized for so long, I decided to help my family make a stronger commitment to healthy eating and fitness. I am not 100% sure what caused my health problems, but I am sure what decisions we all had been making that weren't healthy.
Yesterday I looked for some recipes online inspired by conversations with friends. Sticking to a grocery list was easier when I went shopping by myself yesterday....no one stuck anything else in the cart.
For breakfast today, I made a triple berry banana smoothie. I put blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries in this Food Network recipe. Princess wasn't crazy about. I think she probably didn't like the texture. I switched her to a mandarin orange. Champ liked the smoothie, but he thought I gave him to much of it. We also had crust less spinach quiche. Both kids liked it. Check some fruits and vegetables off the list by 8:30.
I took the kids to the children's museum. They loved it. We only took the elevator once. We did the rest of our exploring by foot. For lunch, we ate the lunch I packed ( juice boxes, mandarin oranges, grapes, and PBJ). We had some snacks when we got home. Both kids had Popsicles. Apparently the Popsicle was too yummy for Princess to put down, so she peed in her pants.
I napped, but no one else did.
I made a splendid dinner. It included baked chicken with a coating comprised of bread crumbs, wheat germ, Parmesan cheese, whole wheat flour, and egg beaters. We ate corn on the Cobb. For fruits, we had strawberries and ghosts. I got the ghost idea from the site Super Healthy Kids, except I didn't freeze mine or put them on a stick. The recipe included bananas and coconut. For dessert, I used the same site for a 3 minute apple pie recipe, except I baked my apples. By the end of the day, I had provided 8 fruits for my family.
I ran 3 miles on the treadmill tonight. Champ and I probably took a mile bike ride. Princess rode some on her new to her tricycle. Daddy did his exercise outside tonight. Kids also played catch with Daddy. Daddy traced Princess with sidewalk chalk on the driveway...a favorite activity of hers.

Out and About
We cooled off on Thursday by taking a dip in Vanessa's pool. Champ had a slightly rougher time at the pool. Vanessa has girls and the girls had several friends over, and only one other friend was a boy. Girls don't play as rough as boys. Princess thought she was something else as she independently made her way through the pool with the help of her puddle jumper.
The boys went to the gym Thursday evening. They are good workout buddies now.
Wednesday and Thursday we went to VBS. It was okay. The kids liked it, but I thought it needed more meat and to be better advertised.
Friday morning was very hot, but we had a great time at our favorite park with new friends, the Wilsons. We met them through church. Champ always seemed to hit it off with her oldest son. The mom brought two of her three boys. We played and ate a picnic together.
We cooled off by running some errands. I got a bridal shower gift at Bed Bath and Beyond. While we were waiting for the gift to be wrapped, we used the bathroom. Princess managed to crawl out of the stall, push the restroom door out, and escape into the store while I was using the restroom. Thankfully, she didn't get too far, but it scared me nevertheless. Both kids acted like I was torturing them as we waited for the present to be wrapped. Next, we went to Meijer to get birthday presents and just a couple grocery items.
When Daddy came home from work, I ran just over 3 miles on the treadmill. Then the boys went to the gym to exercise.
Friday evening the Worgess family helped Daddy bring back a bike for me from the store. As Champ practices his bike, he is getting faster. He wants to go longer distances, and I can no longer keep up with him by just running. Our friends stayed and played outside with us until late.
The boys were at the ball diamond early on Saturday for a 2 hour practice. Princess and I played play dough at home before preparing lunch (homemade pizza).
Daddy took the kids to two birthday parties while I traveled far to Amanda Shank's bridal shower. I had so much fun seeing old friends and laughing. I got home in time to catch the tail end of the Toth birthday party. At home, Champ and I took a bike ride together. Then I took another bike ride without him.
Today I helped in Champ's Sunday School room. He loves when I am there. Daddy grilled for lunch. Everyone tried for a nap, but the kids weren't that cooperative. Champ and I took a couple of bike rides throughout the day. I am letting him choose where to go now, and I am just following him. He loves making the decisions. Somehow I have arrived at a point in my life where going to the grocery store by myself today was very exciting. We are hoping to make smoothies for breakfast! Daddy pushed Princess in the stroller while he walked this evening. She finally napped, which explains why she isn't sleeping now. :)

Sizzling Summer
The weather has been warmer and beautiful these days. Monday we went to one library to get summer reading prizes before we met the Parsetich family at the neighboring park. We went to a favorite local ice cream place. Their family bought food there, but we just bought desserts since we had packed a picnic lunch. We had plenty of energy to play for hours at the park.
I went to an evening exercise class, and the boys went to the gym after that. I discovered something interesting that night. I loaned the Champ my iPod shuffle. He was so excited about it. I made the rule that he could enjoy the iPod as long as his feet were moving. Otherwise, Daddy would take the iPod. I think the boy walked over a mile that night. I think it is a good fit for the 2 of them to be exercise partners.
Yesterday we went to a different library for story time. I think Princess has done some regression in some of her behaviors since I entered my long hospital run. She was very anxious when we walked into story time. She wanted to be held, sit on my lap, didn't want to sit on a carpet square, and didn't want to participate in many activities. However, she loved watching the songs, games, and books.
We brought another picnic lunch to the Smith house on Tuesday. My friend kindly opens her pool to others almost once a week during the summer. Champ really enjoys her youngest son, Jonah. They played in the pool and around the pool. Princess loves to jump in the pool to me. I let her do that, but then I held her hands and had her kick back to the steps. She was anxious about leaving my side again. Since she had on a puddle jumper, I would try to pry her off of me and shove her in the direction of Bekah's mom, Penny. Penny would be very enthusiastic about Princess's accomplishment, and it would encourage Princess to be a little more daring. Princess was reluctant to take a nap at home, but she eventually slept.
Shelli and I braved Zumba class last night. The boys went to the gym after us.
Today we went to the gym with the Rich girls. All four kids played while the mommies worked out. I ran 4 miles on the treadmill, my longest since before going into the hospital. We decided to do a pitchin lunch with the Rich girls at their house. Then the kids played together. It took me an hour to convince Princess to take a nap, but she caved.

Father's Day 2013
Let's be honest....Mother's Day 2013 was less than ideal. It was sandwiched between nights 14 and 15 in the hospital. My parents came to the hospital for a short visit, and Daddy and the kids spent most of the afternoon at the hospital. We forgot to get Champ to a birthday party. I took laps around my depressing unit while pushing my IV pole.
Father's Day was bound to be better than Mother's Day. Champ, however, woke up with a possible belly ache. We decided that he should stay home from church with Daddy. Princess and I went to church. She loves the little potty in her Sunday school room. I think she is learning a lot of songs there.
At home, we had leftovers for lunch. Our family played Uno and Candy Land. Princess and I were a team for both games. She makes defense in Uno pretty easy since she leaves all her cards face up on the coffee table. You have to keep a close eye on her because she loves drawing cards from the deck, and she loves playing her cards too. Candy Land was a little too hard. She kept wanting to take all the pieces off the board.
For nap time, I think the kids didn't sleep, but the grown ups did. Daddy got up after an hour to help Princess potty. Apparently I took a nap that lasted close to 3 hours. Oops!
Champ rode his bike for about 2 miles while I tried to jog and keep up with him. Princess was pushed by Daddy to the playground.
We ate a delicious meal at City Barbecue. Princess fell asleep in the car, and she was very upset when she awoke to no chocolate milk. However, she settled down and enjoyed the meal. After dinner, we used our Strawberry Festival coupons at Culver's for ice cream.
We got our weekly groceries at Kroger before heading home to read books. Even though it was Father's Day, Daddy surprised each of us with a typed and printed sweet note about what we are doing that is great and that he loves.
Father's Day was definitely better than Mother's Day.

Weekend Fun
Both kids had wellness appointments on Friday morning. It worked very well to have Champ go first. Princess will do anything that Champ does. Doctor says both kids look wonderful. Champ practiced his bike throughout the day. The Rich girls came over to play. The boys went to the gym in the early evening. We tried walking to the playground in the evening. Champ rode his bike there. Princess didn't last long at the playground because she needed to potty, and there is no potty at the playground. We also stopped by the Rich house in the evening. Champ practiced a little baseball there. Princess was provided some toys to explore.
Champ rode his bike around the neighborhood on Saturday morning while I jogged behind him. Then the boys went to the gym. We met my parents at Splash Island. Champ loved everything...water slides, diving boards, lazy river, ropes, etc. Daddy braved almost all these activities with him. Princess was a little more hesitant. She loved riding in a double raft on the lazy river with my mom. However, my mom had to work hard to make sure the raft didn't get squirted by water. Princess's eyes would bug out and her mouth would open wide every time the raft got close to waterfalls. She splashed her legs in the baby pool. All the dumping buckets, waterfalls, and noises were a little overwhelming for her. My parents came over for a homemade early father's day dinner. Champ seemed to be eating everything in sight. Daddy told him, however, that he could not have two pieces of chocolate cake for dessert. I laughed aloud when I saw Champ scraping the chocolate cake off Princess's face and eating it.
Getting Back Up
Shelli had asked me recently if I'll train for another half marathon. I didn't think I would I replied. I had worked hard to keep on pace training for a half marathon until I got very ill. I didn't really have a desire to try to train again. I had been eating so healthy and was in top physical shape, but I got so sick anyways.
Yesterday as we were preparing to go to the gym, Champ asked me if I was going to run 3 miles again. I told him that I was going to try. I asked him why he wanted to know. He told me that he knew I had been working towards running the half marathon, but I never got the chance since I got very ill.
As I thought about my conversation with Champ, the thought occured to me that a lesson for my kids in all of this could be: It is NOT how many times you get knocked down but how many times you get back up.
Perhaps I will try to train again for a half marathon.....
Tonight I did 20 minutes on the elliptical and then ran 3 miles on the treadmill. I'm slower than I was before I got ill, and I'm not going as far as I did before I got ill. However, I got back up....

Summer Learning
Sunday morning we went to the late service so the kids could sleep in. Then our family went to the membership class. They provided a lunch and child care in other rooms. The main pastor spoke during lunch, but then another pastor talked. Besides having a nice lunch, the kids were excited to have the Worgess family there. Once the kids left the class to play, they were happy to be with their friends. At one point, I watch Abby leading Princess to the room in which we were meeting. Abby opens the door for Princess, Princess screams across the room, "Daddy, I pooped!" I think Shelli's favorite part of the incident was that Princess was so excited, but she had pooped in her underwear rather than in the potty.
Sunday evening we joined the Toth family for dinner at the Worgess home. Caleb made ribs and Barbecued pork. The kids played fairly well together. Princess was terrified of the dog the Toth family brought. She needed to be held a lot. She loves to look at dogs, but she is very scared to be aroun them.
My parents watched the kids on Monday so that we could work. I thought my training in the morning was helpful, but the afternoon session was extremely boring. I went to an exercise class in the evening. There were a lot of exercises. Those probably would have been easier with better stomach muscles or abs without lots of scar tissue. We played outside some and did a little yard work. We are thankful for my parents help in getting some house projects done.
Tuesday the kids were with a babysitter. We worked again, but hopefully this was my last training for awhile. The kids had a great time with the babysitter. I went with my friend Kelly to the Zumba class at our gym that night. I find that class challenging and fun.
Wednesday morning I went to the eye doctor. The kids and I went to the gym. Princess and I took naps in the afternoon. I was glad to be done with learning so that I could nap again. Champ had his last game of the season last night. It was a tournament game. They lost the game by 2 runs. I thought his team looked great, and I thought they even had a chance of winning. Champ struck out once and then made great hits. Daddy umped the next game.
Today the kids and I ran errands. Then we braved the cold to swim in Bekah's pool. The kids love swimming, but Princess was afraid of Bekah's dog. Princess and I enjoyed another great nap this afternoon. I was back at the gym tonight. Daddy and Champ went to the gym later too. Princess and I drew a lot with chalk on the driveway.

The Age Gap
Thursday I got the kids pumped about swimming, dressed in swimsuits, and taken to my friend's pool only to discover that she had canceled the pool date and forgotten to let me know. She has since apologized several times. These things happen. Champ was disappointed, but he got over it. Princess, on the other hand, had an all out melt down. My strategy for dealing with the melt downs is to walk away until she calms down.
Daddy umpired a game that night. Champ was his assistant. Princess and I went to our favorite park. I was trying her in underwear that day. She did great until the park. She is just to busy too slow down and go to the potty. At one point, she looked at me and said she peed. We walked to the car and changed clothes and underwear. I told her that I didn't have any extra clothes after this. I let her know that if she had another accident, we were going home. Sure enough...she pooped just a little in her underwear. I realized it when I tried to put her on the potty later. I picked her up, brought her to the car, and told her we were going home because I had no other clean clothes. As she was getting in the car, she turned towards the playground and said bye. When everyone was home, the kids played in front of the house. Both enjoy playing catch with Daddy.
While Daddy and I both worked all day Friday, my parents watched the kids. In the evening we went a nearby elementary school for a strawberry festival put together by the fire station. We ate in the cafeteria. This is where I first saw signs that it would be a rough evening for princess. She was scared of the mascots of local restaurants. We went outside to tour ambulances and fire trucks. Champ went in this cool trailer where the fireman explained how to get out of the house safely and then Champ practiced feeling a door and crawling on his hands and knees through a smokey room. Then we were joined by the Worgess family for the bounce house, bounce slide, hot air balloon inflating, and playground time. There were 2 older kids bothering are kids. I told Champ to stay away from them, but I eventually stepped in to let the kids know that we didn't want them playing with our kids.
I walked to the gym on Saturday morning, and I ran 3 miles on the treadmill. This was my furthest distance since my illness began. My dad came over mid morning to continue helping us cut down a dead tree. Champ lost his baseball game. I saw him make 2 good hits, but the other team made 2 good catches. I missed some of the game to take Princess to the potty and to get a Popsicle. The Popsicle was so gigantic that it kept her busy in the dugout when I snuck out to go to get my hair done. I apparently missed Champ make a great play at first.
While I was getting my hair done, Daddy took the kids back to the strawberry festival. The fire department and a bike company went over rules of biking, checked bicycles and helmets, and let the kids ride. Princess apparently did a great job on the tricycle. From there, they traveled to a baseball teammate's birthday party. Princess and Champ loved the pool at the party. Princess was fast asleep on the way home from the party. My parents took Champ to an Indians baseball game. The rest of the family did a few errands. Princess had a meltdown when she realized that Champ was with the grandparents and she wasn't. She apparently jumped out of bed to see her "buddy" when he came home at quarter till eleven. Needless to say, the kids are sleeping in this morning.

Food and Chocolate
Yesterday I exercised in the morning while the kids played at the gym. We played outside briefly. In the afternoon, we skipped the nap and instead ran errands. Champ told anyone and everyone that he made a home run. There was a baseball practice in the evening with many members missing. Princess and I played catch off to the side. We went to the nearby school to let Champ practice riding his bike and allow Princess to play on the playground. I'm not really sure how Champ managed to crash into the few stationary items in the parking lot. I pointed out some cracks to follow as he turned. That seemed to help, as long as his eyes were on the road.
During evening prayers (or any prayers), Princess always has the following prayer:
Thanks for Daddy, Mommy, Champ, umm, Daddy, Mommy, amen
Sometimes she varies which family members get mentioned twice. Last night, however, she added to the prayer: thanks for food and chocolate
Before bed, she likes to postpone the inevitable by snuggling with me. We sing baa, baa, black sheep; abcs; and deep and wide. She has also wanted to read moo, baa, la, la, la recently.

Exciting Times
As usual, we went to church on Sunday. However, this Sunday was super exciting for Champ because it was promotion Sunday. Daddy said princess was less than thrilled to be in her new room. I helped in Champ's class. For lunch, we ate leftover Buca food. Then we began improvements to our deck. We treated it and rinsed it to try to get it clean. I did most of the first coat of staining. Dad did most of the second coat. The kids helped some. They really got into it. Daddy grilled chicken for dinner, and it was delicious. We added some BBQ sauce with a combo other sauce of avocado, Greek plain yogurt, and onion powder. It was yummy. Of course, the kids only ate the chicken with BBQ sauce.
Monday was my first time to run 2 miles on the treadmill since my illness. We met my friend Christi and her 2 kids at our favorite local park to play and eat a picnic. We spent about 2 1/2 hours there, and we had a great time. We had leftover chicken for dinner with the addition of homemade sweet potato fries, cherries, and bananas. We pretreated the deck that was under the grill, as well as a couple other wooded areas in the back yard. While we were waiting for them to dry, we went to Champ's school. Princess and I played at the playground, while Champ and daddy practiced on his bike in the parking lot. It was the first time Champ successfully rode his bike without training wheels. He was all smiles and so proud of himself. We went home and did more staining outside.
Today I took the kids to the library. Princess loved playing puzzles there. We went to story time for Princess. She was terrified to go. I think she is still afraid that I meet leave her again for a couple of weeks. She sat on my lap, but she loosened up and was entertained by what was going on. Our friends that were going to meet us at the park today cancelled. We went to the park anyways to play and have a picnic. We enjoyed wraps for dinner. I successfully snuck in just a little smashed avocado into Champ's wrap. Princess thought dinner stunk.
Champ's baseball game was very exciting. They won, which is rare. Champ got a single, an inside the park home run, and a triple. The last 2 hits he crushed, but it did help that the other team's defense stunk. Champ was thrilled. He asked me later if he would be on the news. My parents were there to see him in all his glory, and then we called his other grandparents to share the good news. We went to our favorite ice cream place to celebrate. We ate in the dark since there was a power outage in the area. We got home and learned that our house was in the power outage section.

Summer's Start
Sunday was a continuation of The Story at church. We took our usual trip to Kroger. Then we traveled to a BBQ. We met and became friends with Chris, Kelly, and their girls at church. They had a fabulous feast, playground equipment, kids to play with, and a room full of pink toys for Princess. It was great to see Princess playing with Barbie. Our friends, the Riches, were there too. Daddy took the kids to the Toth house that night for another BBQ. I had my sweet friend, Mandy, come visit me instead. She and I went to Subway instead and then back to my house to catch up on life.
Monday was Memorial Day. It was nice to have all 4 of us home. We did stuff around the house or for the house. We briefly went to a nearby playground with our neighbors, the Rich family.
On Tuesday, Princess went to my parents' house for the morning while I took Champ to the doctor. Champ and Daddy went to baseball practice that evening.
Wednesday the kids and I went to our favorite local park. Champ had a baseball game that night. Princess loved that my mom came to the game. Princess sat happily in her lap for almost the whole game. Champ made one run. He tells me that he hates when he strikes out and when someone catches his hit.
I went to work out at the local gym on Thursday morning. I ran and walked while the kids played in the day care. My mom sweetly brought over flowers and planted them along our front sidewalk. The highlight of the day for the kids was swimming in my friend Bekah's pool. Several of my co workers and their kids were there. Princess had on a puddle jumper. She loved jumping from the side of the pool into the pool with me there to catch her. She also loved sitting in a little car raft. She eventually
started figuring out that the puddle jumper allowed her to be more independent and start to swim like her brother. Champ enjoyed playing both in and out of the pool with the older kids. Both kids enjoyed an ice cream Popsicle. I loved when Princess had eaten enough of it to start to see the stick
above the ice cream. She asked me what it was. Our family went to our favorite local park that night.
On Friday, I felt brave. I took a Zumba class for the first time, even though I knew no one in the class. It was fun. We went to a teacher store in the afternoon. In the evening, the kids played basketball on the driveway. Princess is starting to make baskets on the 4 foot goal, and she is super
proud of herself.
Today baseball was canceled due to rain. So, I talked Shelli and Kelly into doing a Zumba class with me. We all liked it, and it is always fun to do something with friends. Our family went to Buca for lunch. My friend Jennifer gave us a Buca gift card when I was in the hospital. Champ especially loved Buca. We did grocery shopping at Meijer. For dinner, we went to dinner at the Worgess house. We love when Caleb makes meat with the smoker. After dinner, everyone had fun playing
outside.
One of my favorite parts of this start to summer has been nap time. The last month or so wore me out, and it made Princess terrified to be without me. So, we have been napping together on my queen bed, although she snuggles tightly against me. Most days this week I have fallen asleep with her. I have been making Champ play quietly by himself.
Last summer I felt the need to get the kids into activities....story times, craft times, swim lessons, camps, etc. I think my recent illnesses have changed my mind. We have almost no commitments during the day. I am taking time to rest and not run around. I am, however, making Champ due "school time" each day. I write him a note in his journal. He writes me back. I am making him incomplete workbooks ( math, spelling, grammar, and science) from school that he brought home. I have him read to me, and I read to him. We do it during the week, and he knows he does this so he doesn't forget things over the summer.
Another thing I am enjoying about this summer is cooking. Some highlights from the week include 2 different coffee cakes made with Greek yogurt, sweet potato fries, baked chicken with a bread crumb and wheat germ coating.
