Finishing February

On Saturday, Daddy was busy helping out with a basketball tournament.  I took the kids to the museum.  Princess was so happy to be back on the carousel.  It was engineer day.  Kids got googles for experiment.  Champ loved building boats out of straws, cups, plastic, and duck tape.  He got to test his design in the water.  He added weights, and he tried to see how many could stay in the boat before the boat sank.  We also liked the new gecko exhibit.  Their camouflage was excellent, and we struggled to find them.

In the evening, we went to a Chinese buffet that champ had been dying to go to since my parents took him.  I wasn't as thrilled as he was.

On Sunday, I helped in the nursery with princess.  My friend shelli and her son Caleb came over in the afternoon.  Shelli helped me get things up and running on my ipod shuffle that my sweet hubby got me for valentines day.

Monday and Wednesday were champs last days at swim team.  He didn't get promoted to the next swim team, so he was bumming.  I am thrilled that he is improving in the skill of swimming, as well as having a break from champs activities in the evening.  Champ also had a few doctors appointments this week.  Tonight we ate at bravo for dinner.

Last night princess said my first name for the first time, but she has been saying daddy's name for awhile now.

Enjoying the long weekend

Sunday evening was a rare event...daddy and I got a babysitter (one that isn't even related to us) and went out.  We ate a scrumptious dinner at Red Lobster.  No one cried at the table, and no one bounced up and down in their seat.  No one even spilled their drink at dinner!  Both of us feasted on shrimp.  We went to the cheap movie theater and saw Here Comes the Boom.  Although I didn't like the fighting, there were many hilarious moments.  It was great to laugh!  The kids liked having a babysitter.

On Monday, the kids and I had the day off.  We took full advantage of free day at Conner Prairie.  The Champ's highlight was putting on gigantic boxing gloves and helmet and boxing. In his final battle, he knocked out "Andrew. Jackson".  Princess really loved their discovery room, as well as checking out real animals (cows, oxen, sheep, and a horse).

I ran Monday night while D took the kids to Cham's swim team practice.  We think Champ doesn't try if he thinks he won't be the best.  I went to my school to set up for a sub, only to discover that my key card wasn't working.  So, I couldn't get into the building.

I took today off, and I was super busy.  I dropped stuff off at my school for my sub.  I dropped Champ off at his school, followed by Princess at her school.  I went to CVS to get some of Champs medicine put in a bottle to leave at school.  I got my allergy shot.  I continued the productive day by going to the dentist.  I showed up for a surprise lunch with  Champ, even though half the lunch was over.  He was super excited as he picked up his tray and escorted me to the special table for lunch guests.  I dropped off his extra medicine with the nurse.   I went home for a few hours before going to get my foot looked at.  I was disappointed to learn that I may have injured the padding in my foot, which may take months to heal.

Valentine's Day

We had our usual evening activities this week...swim team on Monday and Wednesday, as well as basketball practice on Tuesday.  It was the Champ's last basketball practice.   Princess enjoyed playing with the sisters of teammates during the practice.  We were glad to have people there to wear her out.

Princess had her Valentine's Day party at school on Thursday.  I had made both kids sit down over the weekend to fill out their Valentine's Day cards.  Needless to say, Princess wrote scribbles all over hers.  Champ helped by putting her name and her classmate's name on each card.  She loved bringing home more Valentine's Day cards.  She calls them her flashcards.  I loved how I told her Friday morning who each card was from.  On Friday evening, she was telling me this is the card from so and so.  She had remembered hours later.

Our family went to our favorite local restaurant for dinner.  We ran into my mom's beautiful friend there.  Champ asked the lady if she was his 92 year-old grandma's mom.  So much for her feeling special on Valentine's Day.  Daddy was a good listener and got me an iPod for the special day.

Daddy went to Louisville on Friday to a trade show.

Champ had his Valentine's Day party at school on Friday.  Memaw helped at his party.  We are blessed that she can help at things like parties.

Friday was game night at church for elementary children.  Champ always loves going to game night.  He said he didn't have friends he knew, but he said he made new friends.  Hooray!

On Saturday, we did a few errands.  The kids had a little money to spend.  Champ bought Legos.  Princess got a new outfit for her doll (with a little direction from mom).

Champ played in his last basketball game.  He had his season high...8 points.  The team did fabulous, but they couldn't pull out the victory.  They lost the game 30-29.  They finished the season with only 1 win.

We took Champ to the library for the Connor Prairie visit on the Civil War.  Champ had enjoyed looking at my students' projects on the Civil War so we thought he might enjoy this.  He got a chance to stand and be a part of the Union Army.  He asked 3 great questions in front of the group.  He wanted to know things like if they fought at night and if they practiced before battle.  He learned that they didn't practice at night because they wouldn't be able to see their target.  They also said they marched, but they didn't practicing their shooting.  They had to be quiet so as to not reveal their position.

Last night we had the Worgess and Toth family over for pizza and play.  8 kids is a lot of commotion.

This morning we were learning more about The Story, our sermon series.  I like how the entire church, Princess' class on up, is learning the same thing.  Church was followed by grocery shopping.  Boys are out now doing more errands.  After more than 30 minutes of playing in her big girl bed, I think that Princess has finally caved and fallen asleep.

Daddy's birthday

We celebrated daddy on Thursday.  We went to my parents house for dinner.  Daddy was thrilled with city BBQ being the main dish.  Homemade red velvet cake as the dessert is always a treat too.

Saturday morning began with blood all over princess.  After a little detective work, we determined her nose had been bleeding.   Daddy went to the laundromat to clean her bedding.  Next, we were off to the clc.  Boys played wii, princess watched people, and I jogged.  Mom, dad, and cousin Caleb came to the champs basketball game.  He wanted so badly to score, but he couldn't get it done.  Our team played their best and kept the game close, but we lost by 4 points.  Princess played dolls with the other girls.  For dinner, we went over to the Hahn house.  We met them in the play areas at church.  They have 2 sweet boys.  We enjoyed dinner and play time.

Today began with church and the grocery store.  On many occasions when I pick up princess from Sunday school, a volunteer tells me how smart he is.   Unfortunately, she isnt smart enough to know not to push around the lead pastors only grandchild, as she was doing when I arrived.  Oh, well.

Jan/feb

Recently champ was involved in a game night at church.  He loved it, of course.

About a week ago, champ and daddy went to the movies to see Pete, the magic dragon.  Champ and I went to the corporation wide bible club roller skating party the next day.  He wasn't thrilled about going, but he had a great time.  It was almost too crowded there.  He had a hard time finding friends from his school.  His bible club is so small compared to the other schools though....probably needs to be advertised better.

We recently did a dine to donate night for his school at a local ice cream place.  What's not to love about eating ice cream for a good cause.

On Friday night, dad took princess to a southport basketball game.  I took champ to the mother/son dance at his school.  He was reluctant to go to it, but he refused multiple offers to leave.  We've sheltered him from secular music, so he wasn't familiar with the songs or dances.  He did a lot of running around though.  He did pretty well on a hula hoop activity too.  He enjoyed cookies too.

On Saturday, champ made a great basket during his game.  It was impressive because he was he was fouled at the same time.

I helped in the nursery with princess last weekend.  This weekend I helped in champs Sunday school class.  He had a freak accident while helping to lead the worship songs.  He managed to get a piece of the wall stuck under his finger.  I enlisted the help of another volunteer who used her fingernail and tweezers to remove the foreign object.

Princess loved wearing her new pink horse sweatshirt recently.  She has no interest in fancy clothes, hair bands, or barretts.  she adores her brother still.  When champ was upset recently. She was so cute as she tried to comfort him.  She told him it was going to be okay and kept giving him hugs.  She loves to wear my shoes and champs shoes around the house.  She has her own ideas.  Although daddy put a little ranch on her plate last night, she needed more.  So, when the opportunity presented itself, she took the ranch and dumped about half the bottle on her food and placemat.  She loves to be loved on by people.  She goes up to familiar faces at practices and works her magic.   She likes to play with people's sisters at basketball practice.
