The Champ's next season of basketball began this evening. Daddy is coaching. There are 4 girls and 5 boys on his team. Princess sat contentedly and watching half the pracitce. Then she decided that she needed to explore some. I enjoyed talking to another mom in the stands.
The evenings are really rushed with a visit to the gym, but we love it.
Princess turned 14 months old today! She is so grown up. Last night she wanted me to keep reading her a very small book. I read it 3 times before my own dad popped over to drop something off. I'm glad she is starting to show an interest in books.
Princess has my dad wrapped around her little finger. She kept snuggling up to him last night as he was holding her.
This site is designed to document the beautiful lives of two precious children. Champ is my 8 year-old son, and Princess is my 3 year-old daughter.

Tuesday
Dad was a team player and went to work early so that he could pick up the kids early. I wanted to go to a meeting after school, so he helped out how he could.
We are enjoying clean clothes. Our dryer was broken for a week, but it is now fixed.
The Champ watched some TV after school. When we realized that he left his back pack at school, we improvised on his homework. I'm appealing to his competitive nature and having him compete against Daddy in word recognition contests. He seems to like it.
Princess was cracking up tonight with Daddy. Daddy was stealing paper out of her hand, and she thought it was hilarious. Not really, but I guess a lot of things are funny when you are a year. She is taking an interest in using a spoon and fork, but she isn't good at using them yet. She also likes to play a hide and seek game, but instead of covering her face...she covers her ears. We ask, "Where did Baby go?" Another hilarious game.
Daddy and I have started to enjoy cooking once every 2 weeks or so and freezing the meals. Tonight we enjoyed meatloaf and mashed potatoes from our freezer. Yum! Yum!

Start of the Week
Yesterday we went to church without Daddy. He hasn't been feeling well. The Champ and I took a trip to Meijer while the others napped. When the Champ and I returned home, we made zucchini bread with blueberries. My friend Dani gave me the idea. The Champ went to Awana last night.
Today we were back at work/school. Our dryer was fixed after school. I can't wait to start chipping away at the laundry pile again. That pile never has a bottom.
We are clapping for Princess when she gets off the couch feet first. She loves to clap too. Her whole face lights up. She was also giggling nonstop at her brother tonight. He was playing some kind of keep away game with her pacifier. She thought it was hilarious.
Today the Champ celebrated the 100th day of school at his school. I'm inclined to think that someone isn't counting very well. Today was also the 100th day of school at my school. I don't know how it could be the 100th day at both schools because my school has been in session longer than his.

Saturday
Saturday brought errands. There was still time for The Champ to paint, play with his superheroes, and read some books on the computer. I loved how he helped me make pizza for lunch.
Princess is really into the toy box with the wholes that are the shapes of the puzzle pieces. She loves doing it. I love watching her walk everywhere and giggle at her brother.
Princess brings joy to peoples' lives by waving at everyone where ever we go.

Finally Friday
After school, we ventured to Chicago's pizza with our friends, the Worgess family. Then we went to hang out at their house. Good to be in the company of friends.

MLK Week
We all had Monday off. Mom did some babysitting for us.
The evenings have been busy. Princess is showing an interest in puzzles. She is able to put a few pieces in here and there. I clap when she gets it in the right place. She claps whenever she gets a piece somewhere on the puzzle, even if it isn't in the right spot.
I watched Princess put a nail from our Elmo workbench into the toaster. When I went to assess the situation, I noticed that her pacifier was also in the toaster. The pacifier was salvaged, but the nail remains inaccessible in the toaster.
Champ is picking up reading. It is fun to watch. He has really improved in rhyming too. He is big into his Legos in the evenings. We are super excited that the next round of basketball starts next week.
I've been ambitious enough to make it to the gym twice before the kids get up. We'll see how long that lasts.

Saturday
We didn't do anything after school/work on Thursday. There was snow that evening...not the best evening for getting out and about.
I had The Champ where his boots to school on Friday. I told him that he could change into his gym shoes when he got to school. I envisioned he would change the shoes outside his classroom. He made me giggle when I realized that he had literally walked through the front door of the building and collapsed in an effort to change his shoes. The principal was helping him.
On Friday, I took the kids out to our favorite local taco joint. I told The Champ we were celebrating a great week for him at school. Princess laid down on the floor at the restaurant. While in her highchair, she somehow poked a hole in a styrofoam cup. This resulted in her being soaked. The Champ was a big help in getting set up with necessary supplies (drinks, high chair, sauces, forks, napkins, etc.). (He loves to help, and he especially loves things that are his normal jobs. Other weekly jobs he has include setting the table for dinner at night and helping his daddy unload the groceries from the car.) At home, the Princess seemed to be enjoying clapping for everyone.
Today we all slept in till at least 7. That is hard to get everyone to do at the same time. We went to the CLC late morning. The Champ and I alternated laps around the track (walk, run, walk, run, etc.). I was proud of us for running 3/7 of the laps. The boys played some basketball, hoop shoot, and ping pong. Next, we headed to Kroger. The Champ loves that there is a cart there that is his size for him to push. He loves pushing and putting the groceries in the car.
Princess was asleep before we got home. This afternoon was busy with laundry, Tv, educational games on the computer, etc. The boys went out for more errands, plus Daddy took The Champ to get frozen custard as a treat for having a great week at school.
Princess did ok at stacking some big blocks together today. She is enjoying clapping today still. She also got her first taste of a frozen treat today when she sampled a frozen custard sandwich. For the most part, she seemed to like it.

Hump Day
We have made it through more than half the work/school week. Hooray! Yesterday after school was busy with an allergy shot, Arby's, and a hair appointment.
The after school time is a blur of helping The Champ...Bob books, popcorn words, rhymes, homework, reading to him, etc. Daddy had a meeting tonight at the CLC regarding the next season of basketball there. The Champ and I did a mile while Daddy and Savannah went to the meeting. Then we were playing some in their game room.
I noticed this week that a third tooth seems to be surfacing at the top of Princess's mouth.

Monday, Again
We were back at school and work today.
The Champ had a great day at school. I let him watch 2 TV shows after school, rather than the usual 1.
We went to The CLC tonight. The Champ and I walked/jogged for a mile before he played basketball with Daddy. He and I worked on rhyming words as we went around the track. Princess loves climbing stairs, waving to people, and running to her Daddy on the basketball court.
While Princess and Iwere in the kitchen at home, she started pushing the song button on one of her toys. I noticed that instead of dancing like she usually does (side to side sway) she was bouncing up and down to the music. So cute!
When we got home, there was a little play time for The Champ. Then it was work time: writing numbers, reading popcorn words, reading Bob books, and me reading to him.
Bible time and bed time are the big finish.
Pray for Princess to sleep till 7 am without crying and needing attention

Sunday
This morning we went to church. The main pastor's son spoke again. They have a plan of fill-ins for the main pastor since he has been diagnosed with throat cancer. Princess did great in the nursery, and The Champ seems to be getting more in a groove with Sunday school. He seems to be seeing more kids that he knows. For example, today he saw a kid from his basketball team in his Sunday School. After Sunday School, both kids love playing in a big boat and at the inside playground. Princess loves to rock in this little boat at the indoor playground. The Princess seems to be saying "mom" more today.
For lunch, we redeemed The Champ's free pizza coupon from the Book It program with Pizza Hut. I thought The Princess was literally going to fall asleep in her high chair at lunch. She didn't argue with me when I put her down for a nap after lunch.
The Champ watched some TV, while Mommy and Daddy took a nap too. He likes watching shows like Tom and Jerry, Batman, and Spiderman.
The Champ seems to be enjoying some educational video games that I've found for him online. We are working on rhyming, adding, and popcorn words. Another thing The Champ is enjoying is when I make him quizzes. I've been creating quizzes for him with questions that have to do with addition, rhyming, and reading words. He also makes some quizzes for me. His quizzes lead to a lot of great conversations.
We went to the grocery store. We almost always go as a family. Everyone was very well behaved in the store.
Tonight The Champ and I went through his popcorn words. He did very well with them tonight. I've also started him on the Bob books, so we read two of those tonight. I read him two books so that he can take AR quizzes tomorrow.
We also watched some football today.

Super Saturday
Although The Champ went to bed late, he was up not long after 7. I convinced him to use the bathroom and lay down again. That bought me a little extra time. He was up for good at 8...a nice sleep in after a week of getting up early.
He watched a little TV in the morning. I showed him some fun websites where we can work on math facts, popcorn words, and rhyming. He loved the Tom and Jerry math facts site that I showed him.
Sometime after noon, my dad spontaneously calls and says he wants to take The Champ with them to the Columbus Children's Museum. Back to Back children's museums? 4 different children's museums in 16 days? Sure, why not? The Champ loved this museum too, of course. His favorite part is that you can be flushed down the toilet...well, not really. It is actually a slide, but apparently it is very life like and very fun to a child. He also got a chance to do rock climbing for the first time. He got about halfway up the rock climbing wall, but that was apparently really good for his age. He admitted that it was hard to rock climb. My parents took him out for a float at an ice cream shop and dinner at Bob Evans.
The Princess didn't get to go. However, she enjoyed a nice 3 1/2-4 hour nap this afternoon. Here's to hoping that she falls asleep at bedtime.
Daddy and Mommy enjoyed carry outs for lunch from our favorite local taco joint and for dinner from Panera. The Princess ate all the noodles, carrots, and celery from my cup of chicken and noodle soup. She loved it.
When The Champ came home, we completed our usual bedtime routine (bath, books, Bible).

Friday
Today everyone was at work, school, or day care. The Champ got his report card today, and we are very proud of him, as always.
After school, The Champ watched Tom and Jerry (a new favorite TV show of his). Then we loaded the car, stopped at Burger King, and headed to Bloomington. We wanted to take advantage of WonderLab's evening hours. The Princess did a lot of crying and screaming as we got closer to Bloomington. She is not a good traveler. Usually her problem is that she needs to burp. For some reason, she can't burp in that position. We actually have to get her out of the car seat and reposition her.
The Champ has been to WonderLab before, and he remembered being there (once he saw again what it was). This was a first for The Princess. The Princess was happy just climbing stairs. Once encouraged, she really liked playing with the balls at the water table. She also enjoyed climbing steps that led up to a slide. She does very well getting up steps, and she is starting to experience some success with climbing down steps. She needs help remembering to sit down to slide.
The Champ enjoyed their big vine, air cannon, bubble makers, animals, magnets, etc.
He especially liked putting a ball in some clear pipes. There was forced air that would push the ball along and then pop it out at the other end. There was also an even bigger series of pipes/tunnels with forced air. He put scarves into this apparatus and watched them travel.
He also had a good time with anything in which you could drop a ball and watch the ball travel. WonderLab provides a lot of those activities.

Thursday
Today The Champ started his second semester, and I returned to another day of school. The Champ says the best part of his day was when he earned 11 stickers for good choices at school, while the worst part of his day was me picking him up too early. (He was in the gym playing with his friends.) There is a boy in his class that he really does not like. Today the boy was nice to The Champ. The Champ has been praying for this boy too.
After school, my dear friends (Lori, Rose, and Mandy) visited. Although I was happy to see Rose and Mandy when they arrived, Princess had a break down. They came through the garage when she was expecting to see her daddy. She was very disappointed. My friends quickly redeemed themselves. I love the way they love on me and my family. It is fun to watch them interact with the kids.

Back at it
Today my students came back to school. The Princess was back at day care. The Champ had a last day of holiday camp before his school begins tomorrow. His group went bowling today.
After school, we went to the CLC with my friend Kelly and her girls (Abby and Emily). Those girls, The Champ, and I moved as a herd. We did some running and walking for a mile. At the end, The Champ and Daddy played basketball. The Champ talked the girls into cheering for him. Princess loves to be walking around the basketball court. She especially loves when her daddy holds her on the basketball court.
The Champ and I read for 20 minutes. The Princess isn't ready to sit for 20 minutes yet. She was busy playing and then fussing to go to bed.

Back to the Grind, Mostly
Today I needed to work at least a half day. I ended up working for 5 hours. It was kind of funny that we were there to work some on finalizing grades, but we couldn't because the internet gradebook was inaccessible.
The Champ went to a holiday camp at his school since his school year doesn't start again until Thursday. He was very excited that he got to play a football computer game and that he won 50-0. We've heard the story many times.
The Princess protested her return to day care, but she soon settled back into the routine. I love when I say, "Kiss." My Princess leans in for a kiss. That is my favorite part of picking her up again.
After picking the kids up, we went to the library. The Champ is into superheros. So, he picked out a lot of superhero comic books. The Princess did tear the whole front cover of a book in half. Oops!

January 2
Today we woke up to snow, the first snow of the new year! It snowed off and on today, but there was not enough accumulation for sledding. :(
We began our day at the CLC. The Champ and I completed a mile, most of it with my childhood friend, Vanessa. The boys completed their workout by playing basketball, while the girls climbed stairs.
Next we were off to grocery shop. We stocked up on food, and we spent the afternoon cooking. Dad and I were trying to get ahead of the game so that I don't have to come home from work and cook. It is much easier to just defrost something in the fridge and bake it in the oven, then it is to read recipes and mix in the evenings.
Pretty Princess slept in this morning, so she was only interested in an hour nap. She really loves Dad and I holding her right now. Unfortunately, she wants us to stand when we hold her. That gets exhausting. She folded her hands for the prayers before dinner both yesterday and today...so cute. She is also into her tea party sets that she got for Christmas.
The Champ spent his afternoon playing, watching TV, and being cute with his sister. He is also enjoying me create math problems for him to solve. We take turns, so that he makes up math problems for me to solve next.
We are hating that break is over and that we return to our busy schedules tomorrow.

New Year's Day
Our highlights from 2011:
The Champ: LegoLand in Chicago this summer
Mom and Dad: Dad's job and our new house
This morning I made 4 pancakes, each pancake was one number in the year 2012. 2s are very hard to make into pancakes!
We went to church. We kept Pretty Princess out of the nursery because we still don't feel that she is feeling 100%. The Champ was excited because he got to pray in his Sunday school class.
This afternoon we watched the Colts lose.
This evening Grandma came over for dinner and to hang out.
